Apart from the malls and shopping complexes that have sprung up today in various parts of Bangalore, the following locations have traditionally been the shopping areas of Bangalore and even today offer far more variety compare to the malls in Bangalore. So, if you plan to shop in Bangalore, these locations may be worth a visit.

Commercial Street Bangalore
Bangalore's busiest and crowded Commercial Street is one of the oldest areas in the Cantonment area with lots of shopping spots. Among the variety of shops located here, majority are filled with garments, hosiery and textiles.
Apart from these, one can also shop for stationery, art supplies, sports good, shoes, novelties, jewellery, general good and travel kits. Depending on the whim of the salesman or the appearance of the customer, prices are subject to change. Bargaining may reduce the prize to one third from what it was first quoted. The place also has some fine restaurants and ice cream shops.

M.G. Road Bangalore 
Mahatma Gandhi Road which was called South Parade during the British reign, is one of the busiest roads in the city. It is the city's fashionable shopping street stretching from Trinity Circle at one end to Anil Kumble Circle at the other.
The area has a varied mix of shops from general goods to electronic items, silk saris, antiques, textiles etc. Some of the main shopping centres on M. G. Road are Shrungar Shopping Complex, Barton Court, Public Utility Building, Spencer's Super Market, the Coir Board showroom, Natesan's Antiquarts, Kids Kemp, Saree Kemp, Cauvery Arts and Crafts emporium and others. Along with retail stores and food outlets, it also houses a large number of financial institutions like ING Vysya, Vijaya Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Citibank, HSBC, Deutsche Bank etc.

Brigade Road Bangalore
Brigade Road, with lots of entertainment like pubs, internet cafes, bowling alley, discotheque etc. is a popular hangout for young people. This road adjacent to MG Road is famous for electronic equipments like TV sets and music systems to refrigerators, garments, pots and pans, toys, music and shoes.
Shoppers can also buy branded and unbranded clothes, antique jewellery, shoes, fabrics, etc. Tamil Nadu handicrafts showroom ' Poom Puhar' is also located on Brigade road.

Avenue Road Bangalore
Avenue Road, one of the oldest and crowded places in Bangalore, is known for its stationery, stainless steel ware and silver jewellery. It is a place of dense traffic, as the place joins two important areas like City market and Kempegowda road.
Avenue road is the hot spot for engineering/ medical books. It is the only place in Bangalore where one can find second hand books in plenty.

Residency Road Bangalore
Residency Road is known for some of the famous emporiums like Gangotri, Uttar Pradesh Government Handicrafts Showroom; Mrignayani, Madhya Pradesh Government Emporium; Utkalika, Orissa Government Handicrafts Emporium and Gurjari, Gujarat State Handicrafts Emporium.
These emporiums have a good collection of stuff from decorative items to brassware, wooden furniture, antique jewelry, ethnic printed fabrics and saris.
